Fiscal Year Calculator: from input to a reviewable result

Map a calendar date to a fiscal year, quarter, and exact start and end dates for any starting month. The label convention is explicit: choose whether FY uses the year in which the period starts or the year in which it ends.

Worked example: April year-end convention

Example input
Date August 10, 2026; fiscal year starts in April; label by ending year.
Example output
FY2027, Q2; fiscal period April 1, 2026 through March 31, 2027.

How to interpret it

August falls in the second three-month block after April: April–June is Q1 and July–September is Q2. The selected ending-year convention labels the same period FY2027.

Month-offset calculation

The calculator measures the zero-based month offset from the selected fiscal start, divides that offset into three-month quarters, and derives boundaries using real calendar month lengths. Start-year and end-year labels change only the displayed FY name, not the underlying period.

Accounting boundaries

  • This models calendar-month fiscal years, not 4-4-5 or 52/53-week calendars.
  • It does not determine tax filing obligations or statutory reporting rules.
  • Confirm the organization’s label convention before sharing FY results.

Result guide

What Fiscal Year Calculator calculates

Choose any start month from January through December and decide whether the fiscal-year label uses its starting or ending year. The result reports FY, quarter, and exact boundaries.

Frequently asked questions

Why can the same period have different fiscal-year labels?

Organizations may name a fiscal year for the year in which it starts or the year in which it ends. The calculator exposes both conventions instead of assuming one.

Can the fiscal year start in any month?

Yes. Select any month from January through December. Quarters are then calculated as consecutive three-month periods from that starting month.

Does this calculate a 4-4-5 retail calendar?

No. This calculator uses calendar-month boundaries and does not model 4-4-5 or 52/53-week retail calendars.
