Day of Year Calculator: from input to a reviewable result

Convert a calendar date into its ordinal day number and see how many days remain in the same year. Leap-year handling is part of the calculation, making the result useful for logs, schedules, manufacturing codes, and date-system cross-checks.

Worked example: August 10, 2026

Example input
Calendar date 2026-08-10.
Example output
Day 222 of 365; 143 days remain after this date.

How to interpret it

The completed months January through July contribute 212 days in a non-leap year; adding August 10 gives ordinal day 222.

Ordinal-day calculation

The calculator sums the actual length of every completed month and adds the day of the current month. February contributes 29 days when the Gregorian leap-year rule applies: divisible by 4, except centuries not divisible by 400.

Date interpretation limits

  • The result uses the proleptic Gregorian calendar.
  • “Days remaining” excludes the selected date itself.
  • Time zones and time-of-day do not affect this date-only result.
