Enter start and end in 24-hour HH:MM format plus an unpaid break in minutes. If the end is earlier than the start, the calculator treats it as the following day and reports elapsed and worked time separately.
Worked shift example
From 09:00 to 17:30 is 510 elapsed minutes. Subtracting a 45-minute unpaid break leaves 465 minutes, or 7.75 worked hours.
Scope and payroll limits
This page calculates one continuous shift and one explicit break. It does not total a weekly time card or apply overtime, rounding, taxes, pay rates, union rules, or local labour law.
Frequently asked questions
How does the calculator handle an overnight shift?
If the end time is earlier than the start time, it is treated as the next day. For example, 22:00 to 06:00 is eight elapsed hours before breaks.
What does 7 hours 45 minutes equal in decimal hours?
Forty-five minutes is 45 ÷ 60 = 0.75 hours, so the total is 7.75 hours. Decimal hours are not an HH:MM clock format.
Does the calculator decide whether a break is paid?
No. Enter only the break minutes you explicitly want deducted. Whether a break is paid depends on the employment agreement and applicable rules.
