What Trapezoid Calculator calculates

Choose the measurement you need: area from two parallel bases and perpendicular height, height from area and the two bases, or perimeter from both bases and both legs. Each result includes its formula and current substitution.

Area and midsegment

Area uses A = (base1 + base2) × height / 2. The midsegment is the average of the parallel bases, so m = (base1 + base2) / 2.

Solve the missing height

When area and both parallel bases are known, rearrange the same formula to height = 2 × area / (base1 + base2). Height means the perpendicular distance, not a slanted leg.

Units and perimeter limits

Use one consistent length unit for every side. Area is in the corresponding square unit. Perimeter needs both bases and both legs; bases plus height alone are not enough to determine it for a general trapezoid.

Frequently asked questions

What is the trapezoid area formula?

A = (a + b)h/2, where a and b are the parallel bases and h is their perpendicular distance.

Can I find perimeter from the two bases and height?

Not for a general trapezoid. Different leg lengths can produce the same bases and height, so both legs are required for this perimeter calculation.

Does the calculator convert units?
