A 150 km trip completed in 2.5 hours has an average speed of 150 ÷ 2.5 = 60 km/h. The result is an average over the whole duration, not the vehicle’s instantaneous speed.
This version expects kilometres, kilometres per hour, and decimal hours. Convert 30 minutes to 0.5 hours before entry. Stops, acceleration, route changes, and traffic are included only if they are already reflected in the total time.
Use t = d/v. Mark time with ?, then enter distance in kilometres and average speed in kilometres per hour. The result is returned in decimal hours.
The calculation input uses decimal hours. Convert minutes by dividing by 60; for example, 45 minutes is 0.75 hours. The related decimal-hours converter can do that step.
Not exactly. This calculator uses scalar speed and total distance. Velocity also includes direction and is normally based on displacement rather than path length.
